Will there be a recording of this webinar available? I'm only catching bits and pieces here today :( 13:18:12 From James Harold to Hosts and panelists : Yup! We're recording. 13:20:07 From Michael Zecca : Amanda, I believe Claire is recording 13:20:59 From Amanda Demster : Hooray :) 13:30:11 From Edw. S. Ginsberg to Hosts and panelists : I have to go. Edw. S. Ginsberg, UMass Boston. 13:42:26 From James Harold : Hey guys, do we care about the orientation of the poles of the magnet? If you used a disk magnet it would (likely) have the axis perpendicular to the card, while the little bar Claire used would be parallel to the card. Or should we do both as a cool experiment!? 13:43:45 From Laurie Ansorge : I ended up placing the magnetometer on the basement floor for stability. Placement #1 was within 4 feet of the sump pump. Readings weren't reliable so I moved it away from other things. 13:44:23 From Steve Boerner : I used 14 disk magnets with 7 on each side of the card. The mirror is 90 degrees to the one in the drawing 13:44:34 From Laurie Ansorge : I needed stable ground or the mirror would never stop moving. 13:51:57 From Denise Terpstra : Did the initial 100 minimum observation requirement change to 50? AL Challenge says 100 and AL Space Weather Program says 100. Can Aaron please clarify. Thx. 13:53:03 From Laurie Ansorge : The challenge requires 50, the program pin requires 100, 1x/day. 13:53:16 From Helen Wirka : Are you suggesting that this would be more of a community measurement reading project vs hosting a program on how to make your own magnetometer and doing your own readings? 13:53:41 From Michael Zecca : You’d be surprised. We have a lot of steel beams in our building which create cell phone interference. 13:54:28 From Laurie Ansorge : pin may require membership in the Astronomical League 13:54:41 From Denise Terpstra : to Laurie A - AL Challenge website says 100. Asking for clarification. I'm a Master Observer in the AL. 13:54:49 From Helen Wirka : Thank you! 14:00:11 From Carolyn Hancock : Many thanks! Great resources 14:00:24 From Lisa Murawa : Thanks a million! 14:00:35 From Sandra Crabtree : Thanks so much! Can't wait to try this! 14:00:41 From Bernadette Lemak : Thank you! 14:00:46 From Michael Zecca : Thanks 14:00:51 From Kara Roberts : thanks! 14:00:52 From Marijka Bosma : Thank you. 14:00:59 From Lisa Broomall : Thank you for the insight and presentation. 14:01:05 From Mary Anne Johnson : Thanks so much! I may do this with my Thursday Thinkers homeschool group!! 14:01:06 From Jennifer Dye : Thank you! Lots of good information. Want to try before I work with kids making their own. 14:01:11 From TISH BRESEE : Can we find the entire lesson online? 14:01:14 From Steve Boerner : Tks Aaron...Steve 14:01:40 From Mark Simonson : Thank you. Outstanding information. 14:01:59 From Claire Ratcliffe Adams : Here is the link bank with all of the resources we will be covering today: https://community.starnetlibraries.org/webinar-experience-solar-maximum-with-the-astronomical-leagues-observing-challenge/ 14:02:01 From TISH BRESEE : Thanks a bunch 14:02:30 From Marie Lott : Very helpful! Thanks!
